Dry Brush. Drain. Define.
There is something wonderfully satisfying about body brushing.
That first sweep of the brush across dry skin feels invigorating, awakening both the skin and the senses. But at Tibby Olivier, we see body brushing as more than an exfoliating step.
We have developed it as the beginning of a three-stage body ritual designed to prepare the skin, encourage rhythmic lymphatic-style massage and enhance the application of our iconic Shrinking Violet Slimming Oil.
Dry Brush. Drain. Define.
It is a simple ritual, but when performed with the right technique, pressure and product, it can become one of the most pleasurable ways to care for your body.
Why dry brush?
Your skin is your largest organ and the outermost layer is constantly shedding dead skin cells.
Dry brushing provides a form of mechanical exfoliation, sweeping away surface dead cells and leaving the skin feeling smoother, softer and more polished.
But there is another reason we love it.
The body responds beautifully to rhythmic, directional touch. Gentle brushing and massage can create a stimulating, invigorating sensation and are often incorporated into wellness rituals designed around circulation and lymphatic movement.
The important word is gentle.
Lymphatic-style techniques use light, rhythmic movements rather than aggressive pressure. The lymphatic system is relatively superficial, so harder is certainly not better.

The Tibby Olivier 3-Step Body Ritual
We recommend thinking about your body ritual in three stages:
01 — DRY BRUSH
Prepare the skin
02 — DRAIN
Use gentle directional massage
03 — DEFINE
Massage in Shrinking Violet Slimming Oil
Together they create a beautifully sensorial ritual for smoother-looking, softer, more supple skin.
STEP ONE
DRY BRUSH
Always begin with clean, completely dry skin.
Take your dry body brush and begin with light, sweeping movements.
There is no need to scrub aggressively. Your aim is to stimulate the skin and exfoliate the surface—not to make the skin red or sore.
Start at the feet
Begin at the feet and work gradually upwards.
Use long, sweeping strokes over the legs, working towards the body. On larger areas such as the thighs and buttocks, you can use broader strokes and gentle circular movements.
Work over:
- Feet and ankles
- Lower legs
- Knees
- Thighs
- Buttocks
- Hips
- Abdomen
- Arms
When brushing the abdomen, use a lighter touch. The skin here is more delicate and does not require vigorous brushing.
The Tibby Olivier Shrinky Brush is designed to make this ritual easy to incorporate into your everyday body care routine.
Remember:
Light pressure. Long strokes. Rhythmic movement.
Dry brushing should feel invigorating—not painful.
STEP TWO
DRAIN
Once you have completed your dry brushing, move into your Tibby Olivier Lymphatic Drainage Technique.
This is where the ritual becomes more than exfoliation.
Lymphatic drainage massage is based on gentle, rhythmic movements designed to encourage the movement of lymphatic fluid. Professional manual lymphatic drainage is a specialised technique, so our home ritual should be viewed as a gentle wellness and body-care practice, rather than a substitute for professional treatment.
The golden rule:
Never force the movement.
The touch should be light, slow and rhythmic.
Think of your hands as guiding rather than pushing.
Begin by gently working around the body’s central drainage areas before moving outwards and then returning towards the body’s natural pathways.
Use sweeping movements rather than deep kneading.
This is not a traditional deep-tissue massage.
It should feel calming, rhythmic and almost meditative.
STEP THREE
DEFINE WITH SHRINKING VIOLET
Now comes the signature Tibby Olivier step.
Apply Shrinking Violet Slimming Oil generously to the areas you wish to concentrate on.
The oil gives the hands the perfect slip for a long, flowing massage while surrounding the skin with a beautifully sensorial body treatment.
Focus on the areas that matter to you:
Waist
Use sweeping movements around the sides of the waist and across the abdomen.
Hips
Work upwards and inwards with rhythmic strokes.
Thighs
Massage from the knee towards the upper thigh, concentrating on the areas where you want to improve the appearance and feel of the skin.
Buttocks
Use upward, circular and sweeping movements.
Arms
Work from the lower arm towards the upper arm using long, flowing strokes.
The objective isn’t to massage harder.
It is to massage consistently.

Why oil?
At Tibby Olivier, we deliberately use an oil rather than a heavy body cream for our signature slimming ritual.
Oil allows the hands to glide continuously over the skin, making it possible to combine sweeping, rhythmic movements with targeted massage.
It also leaves the skin beautifully conditioned, supple and luminous.
And there is something wonderfully ritualistic about applying oil to the body.
It turns a functional body treatment into a moment of self-care.
Your 5–10 Minute Body Ritual
You don’t need an hour.
A simple daily or several-times-a-week ritual can become a beautiful part of your routine.
Before your shower
- Dry Brush
Brush the body using light, rhythmic strokes.
- Shower
Rinse away the exfoliated skin.
After your shower
- Shrinking Violet Slimming Oil
Apply to slightly towel-dried skin.
- Drain & Massage
Use gentle sweeping movements, following your Tibby Olivier technique.
- Finish
Allow the oil to absorb before dressing.
For best results, consistency is more important than intensity.
The Shrinking Violet Ritual
The beauty of this ritual is that each stage has its own purpose.
THE BRUSH
Polishes and prepares the skin.
THE HANDS
Create a soothing, rhythmic massage ritual.
THE OIL
Conditions the skin while allowing targeted body massage.
And together?
They create the Tibby Olivier Shrinking Violet Body Ritual.
A ritual designed around the way women actually want their bodies to feel:
smoother.
softer.
more sculpted.
more confident.
A Ritual, Not a Quick Fix
We believe body care should be approached as a ritual rather than a quick fix.
There is no need for aggressive brushing, painful massage or endless complicated steps.
Take five minutes.
Put on your favourite music.
Light a candle.
Breathe.
Brush.
Massage.
Oil.
Make it yours.
Because the most powerful beauty rituals are often the ones we actually enjoy doing.
Important
Dry brushing is primarily a form of physical exfoliation, and evidence for claims that it independently produces significant lymphatic drainage, detoxification or cellulite reduction is limited.
Use gentle pressure and avoid brushing irritated, broken, sunburned or inflamed skin. If you have a medical condition affecting your lymphatic system, unexplained swelling, or have recently had surgery, seek appropriate medical advice before undertaking lymphatic drainage techniques.
